Teaching

Daniel Johnston has been teaching courses worldwide on the subjects of "exploration economics and risk analysis" and "petroleum fiscal system analysis and design" since 1992. As of 2008, over 4,500 delegates had attended Daniel's courses in around 40 countries. His courses combine in-depth discussion of basic theory and industry standards and practices with practical examples and exercises that provide delegates a thorough immersion into the subjects. Most of his public courses are organized by Conference Connection Ltd. in Singapore, with which he has worked since 1992. He has also taught for various universities.

Daniel helped found the "International School" in 1994 with the Professional Development Institute at the University of North Texas (Denton). He taught seminars for the International School (a one-month series of courses offered to the international petroleum industry) there for 6 years until he moved to New Hampshire in early 2000. Daniel is still associated with the University of North Texas through the Institute of Petroleum Accounting where for the past 6 years he has been writing a column for the Petroleum Accounting and Financial Management Journal.

University of Dundee

Daniel's affiliation with the University of Dundee (Scotland) began in 1994. Currently Daniel and his brother David teach two one-week-long seminars at Dundee the first two weeks each May. Week One: "Petroleum Fiscal Systems and Production Sharing Contracts". Week Two: "International Exploration Economics and Risk Analysis" In the past few years the course on International Exploration Economics and Risk Analysis has been almost exclusively taught at the University of Dundee.
